ABSOLUTELY THE BEST IN HAWAII
We will be making our next trip to the Islands in Sept. Our first trip, on our Honeymoon in June '91, was our first experience with Matsumoto's Shave Ice. We never knew how addictive it can be! I was just telling a friend, who is leaving for Oahu tomorrow, that this is a definate must! Don't be swayed by the line and go to the other shop a couple of doors down...Matsumoto's is absolutely the best in Hawaii and worth the wait! We love the "Matsumoto" w/beans & ice cream...I can almost taste it now! We visit the Islands aboout every couple of years and, Matsu's is always at the top of our list! Went to Matsumoto for the first time, let me just say shave ice with beans, ice cream & condensed milk is WONDERFUL!!! The only thing I wish they couldve done was topped it off with shredded coconut like they do at one place I went to in Kauai. But the staff & service @ Matsumoto's was very fast & friendly.....GOOD JOB GUYS!! =)

Hi my name is Liz and we used to live at Sunset Beach in the mid 60's and we used to come to your store. It was the only store in te area at the time and we loved shopping there. We lived on the hill.

Hanabata Kid

I spent many of my hanabata years hanging around Matsumotos, Three Corners Service Station, Sea View Inn, Fujimuras, IGA Supermarket, Edsmonds, Surf and Sea, Umedas, and Sato Barbershop. Recently, I went back to Haleiwa and found only Matsumotos still standing. All the other places are long gone.

Sorry Stan, I didn't have the time to stop by and see if my favorite Banana with ice cream still tasted the same.

I've had other shaved ice before but nothing like yours. I don't think I can ever find another shaved ice around the mainland that can top Matsu's. It was worth the drive up to your shop. Even though I was tired from the day's agenda, I knew I just have to try Matsu's shave ice and I'm glad I did. I'm surprised on how cheap they were and they were not even stingy on their "toppings". If only you can ship some of those shave ice over the mainland just to satisfy my cravings. Until I visit Oahu again. Thank you!!

memories of the 70's
I lived on Oahu for 7 years from the ages of 3 to 10 dating from '75-'82, and my best memories were going to SunSet Beach and Sharks Cove, then on our way back home we would stop and have Matsumoto's Famous Shaved Ice. Life in the 70's was so good and sweet being a kid growing up in Hawaii without a care in the world except wondering what beach we were headed to and if i was gonna get my Matsumoto's. To this day when my friends visit Hawaii, i tell them they have to stop and experience the real deal. Thank you for making people smile for.......DECADES

I really love their shaved ice. whever we go on vacation to Oahu we always make sure to visit. i will be especially excited to go because i need a new Honu decal. ( i was involved in a car accident and it was totalled so i wasnt able to get it back) i miss my HONU STICKERRRRRRRRRRR....

Can't stop thinking of the GREAT shave ice!

  My family I just got back to Wa. state from a vaca. to Oahu.   One of the highlights (for me) was visiting the North Shore and stopping by Matsumoto for Shave ice.   I've never had anything like it!  Especially with the beans and the ice cream made it that much more delicious!  We plan on another vacation to Oahu next summer,  and for sure we're going back to get some shave ice!

The best!!!

My family is from Kahuku so anytime we go back to visit, we HAVE to go to Matsumoto's for shave ice!  All locals know about it and it's making a name for itself here on the mainland too.  I always laugh at people here who talk about "shaved ice" or "snowcones" - they have no idea what true shave ice is all about.  You can't get better shave ice than here at Matsumotos!!

My parents sent me to visit Hawaii in 2004 as a graduation present. My family is from Kaneohe and moved to Florida in the 80's. My cousin brought me over to the North Shore to hit up Matsumoto's. I had vanilla/banana and it was amazing! I think about this kind shave ice all the time & when I go back to visit it will be one of the first places I go, no doubt! By the way...my grandfather was a boxer in Hawaii back in the 60's...Stan Harrington or "Stan the Man" & I know he loved the shave ice too! He had to b/c my dad and aunties talk about eating this shave ice as a kid :]

1月の末に行きました。

今回の旅行は新婚旅行で、マツモトシェイブアイスを食べに行くことを予定にしてました。　素直にまた行きたい場所です。

お財布にコスコのカードを入れていて、お店のおばちゃんがそれに気が付いて、「尼崎にもコスコが出きたんやってな～。そうそう！」ってそんな話ができて、なんだかとてもうれしかったです。

忘れられない味です

2年ほど前のことです。妻が注文に並んでいる間に私はお店の裏で猫をみつけ、なでていました。

すると日本人のおばあさまから「ようなつくでしょ、その猫」と声をかけられました。「あれ？広島弁かな？」と思いながら「そうですねかわいいですね」と返しそれ以上のお話はしませんでした。

ゴミの片付けなどされていたのでお店の人かなあと思いましたがそのあとは食べることに夢中になってしまいました。

それからこちらのホームページを拝見して創業者さんが広島出身と知り

「あ～もっとお話しておけばよかったな」と後悔しています。

広島で過ごしながら暑い夏を迎えるたびに「シェイブアイス食べたいなあ」と

懐かしんでいます。あの味、日本で出せないかなあ・・・と。

いつか広島店ができるといいなと思っています。その時は私もお手伝いしたい！

IF YOU GO TO OAHU, YA GOTTA GO TO MATSUMOTOS

Oh the memories I have of standing in line for the best shave ice on the face of the planet.  1978-1980, I always stopped here for a shave ice on the way to the north shore.  If you see a long line, don't hesitate to stop.  It will be worth your wait.

I hope to get back to Matsumoto's again some day.

Still Da Best!!

I had a friend give me a pink zip up sweater years ago with your logo on the back. I went back to visit my family and I had my husband and kids with me. They wanted to try shave ice and I knew just the place. Your store is the same way I remember it when I was a small child. I am glad to see that some things never change. Although I don't think you still make da same kine pink sweater.

Absolutely Delicious!

I have never thought that shaved ice could taste so good! The last time I've visited was two years ago, but that doesn't mean that the memory of the amazing ice has faded! The first time I went I wasn't too sure about the beans,but now I dont expect any but those with shaved ice- and your the only ones that can satisfy that craving by the way! Just for the Shaved Ice - All for the Shaved Ice

Danny & I just got married on Maui couple weeks ago and our first plan was to stay on Maui and visit  Big Island.  It was Danny's 1st time in Hawaii and when i told him about your Shaved Ice & saw you on Food Network TV,  he insisted on going.. so we end up staying on O'ahu for 3 days. we stayed in North side for 1 night and when we got there, the first thing Danny wanted to do was to visit you and have a shaved ice.. it was so good that we stopped by next morning when you opened and grabbed one for the road...!

Honeymooning

My mom spent many a day as a little girl eating the shaved ice there.  I grew up in Wahiawa, the north shore was my hangout, and we always stopped in for our shaved ice on the way back up the hill.  When I had kids, I made sure they got to experience matsumotos every chance they got.  Now all of us are way older, and we are planning a family vacation to the islands, and you can bet we will be back to see you when we get there!  A hui hou kakou Hana Hou!

It's a Hawaii Must Do!

A trip to Hawaii is not complete with a trip to Haleiwa for some Matsumoto Shave Ice (as many of my mainland friends will attest!)!  I live on Oahu, but will stop at Matsumoto's whenever we are out on the North Shore - with or without our mainland friends.  The line is often long, but goes fast and you can't beat their shave ice on a hot day!!  Or, any day for that matter!  My favorite is strawberry with condensed milk, but any of their concoctions would be "winnahs!"  Yummy!

8月26日の早朝に妻と妹と友人の4人でワイキキのホテルをレンタカーで出発して9時の開店と同時におじゃましましが何と通常のオプションツアーの時とは違ってお店の中も他にはお客さんもいなかったので、Tシャツやらトートバックやらゆっくりと買い物を楽しむことが出来ました。

もちろんShave IceもOriginal Flavorをいただきました！

相変わらず超美味しい！

そして何と外でアイスを食べていたら・・・ご主人の松本さんが出てきて20分ぐらいでしょうか・・たくさんのお土産話をしていただきました。

とても貴重な思い出ありがとうございます。

ちょっと悔しいのは松本さんと写真を撮るのをすっかり忘れたことです。。（残念）

でもまた秋口の10月あたりにハワイに旅行しようかと妻と計画中！

今度こそは写真撮らせてください。

The best!

Thanks so much for the best shave ice ever!! the 20 minute wait was definitely worth it! Mmmmm. Hawaiian shave ice, with azuki bean on the bottom, snow capped on the top (condensed milk). Heaven!

LOVED IT!
Just got back from Oahu...and the first thing that I miss is Matsumoto's shaved ice.  I had the BEST time out there and wish we could get a Matsumoto's here in the mainland.  Preferably somewhere here in Northern California.  I had the BEST experience coming into your store.  And I will most definitely come visit your store again.

I wish we had one in CA

I remember having my first Matsumoto shave ice in 1985 while on a family vacation.  Since then, I have visited the island frequently and I always stop by to get my fix.  In fact, we will be there next week and can't wait - pina colada with ice cream  YUMMMM.   

Happy 60th anniversay Matsumoto!  Here to more good times and good memories.

Can't wait to get back to Hawaii!

I visited Hawaii in March and have been drooling over the memory of Matsumoto's ever since.  Who would have ever thought that beans, ice cream and flavored ice could be so heavenly.

In my week's stay, I managed to visit three times. Don't let the line discourage you.  Good things come to those who wait.

My yearning is enough for me to visit the website 6 months later, AND leave this entry!
